JAWI or Jabatan Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan was established in 1974  and is today operating under the purview of Jakim (Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia). Some of the objectives of its establishment, among others, are to implement educational and religious services for the Muslims in the country, organize social and community activities as well as provide more platforms for the Muslims rendering their religious duties.
